The perfectly festive Valentine treat. These Heart Pastries are made using just a few simple ingredients – puff pastry, strawberry jam, Nutella, fresh strawberries, an egg and some sugar! Whether you are hosting a Galentine’s party or looking for something fun to make for your kids at home, these are the perfect sweet treat.

Tips & Substitutions

  • You will want to make sure that your puff pastry is at room temperature before making the pastries. I find that the easiest way to ensure they are fully thawed to room temperature in under an hour is to move the puff pastry from the freezer to the fridge the night before you plan to make them, then remove from the fridge 30-40 minutes before making them the next day.
  • You will need both a large and medium size heart shaped cookie cutter for these pastries - linking the set that I used here! To make the pastries, you will use the large cutter to cut through the puff pastry and the medium cutter to score the top of the puff pastry to ensure the edges of the heart rise in the oven.
  • You can easily make these pastries two different ways using two different options for the filling! I used strawberry jam for the filling in half, Nutella for the filling in the other half. Both pair wonderfully with the freshly sliced strawberries on top!
  • I like to dust mine with powdered sugar after removing them from the oven - this small sifter comes in handy in the kitchen often and makes this step very easy!
  • These pastries are best when enjoyed warm, but can be stored in the fridge. I found the best way to reheat them if after refrigerating them is in the air fryer!

Ingredients

– 1 sheet of puff pastry at room temperature

– 9 tbsp of filling – I am using strawberry jam & Nutella!

– 18 strawberry slices (~3-5 strawberries, finely sliced)

– 1 egg

– 3 tbsp sugar

– 1/4 cup powdered sugar

– Supplies needed: large & small heart shaped cookie cutters

Directions

  1. Pre-heat oven to 400, line a baking sheet with foil and grease with cooking spray
  2. Roll out your room temperature puff pastry until even, then using the large heart shaped cutter, cut all the way down to the cutting board. Using the small heart cutter, gently press in the center of the large heart – you don’t want to press this all the way to the bottom. Just about halfway through the pastry
  3. Transfer hearts to the baking sheet, then add 1 tbsp filling per heart and spread to the edge of the small heart indent. Top with strawberry slices, egg wash the edges, sprinkle the top of each with about 1/2 tbsp sugar and bake for 11-12 minutes until golden brown
  4. Top with powdered sugar & ENJOY!
